Just like the skin stretches as and loses elasticity as people age, the eyelids can stretch. A blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes excess skin above the eye and below if needed. An incision is made in the crease of your upper eyelid, or on the lash line of your lower eyelid.
After the procedure, you will have a small row of stitches which will be removed after about a week. In the days following the surgery, you will need to care for the eyelids with ice and antibiotic ointment. You may experience watering of the eyes and sensitivity to light, which should dissipate within a few days. Bruising and swelling generally last about a week, and after that you should be able to resume activities such as driving and/or returning to work.
